Velvet Cover Chubby Book Kit

With this kit, you’ll make a lovely “chubby” book with a beautiful blue cut velvet cover. Why “chubby?” Because it has lots and lots of text sections! The finished book is a fantastic size, small but thick.

You can choose blank pages or printed book sheets for the novel “The Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

The kit is challenging and fun. You’ll make a cased-in book and along the way you’ll learn:

• How to turn velvet into “book cloth” by backing it with paper
• How to create a cushioned, plush feel to the cover by putting batting behind the velvet
• How to sew the “codex stitch”
• How to round, back, and case in a book
• How to use “made” headbands

This book has 18 sections so it’s a good candidate for sewing on a sewing frame. If you don’t have a sewing frame, there are many ways to create a make-shift frame or you can sew the book on the table in front of you, without a frame.
